DNDC is uniquely positioned in the City of Danville to address housing shortcomings and opportunities for which other organizations may not have the capacity or mission focus. With Danville’s rapid growth, DNDC can leverage partnerships with other local organizations and foundations to improve its footprint in the housing market and provide defined focus areas with more comprehensive improvement plans. By not solely focusing on low-income housing, DNDC can address Danville’s housing needs for a wider range of residents within the City of Danville.
DNDC’s Board of Directors chose to focus its efforts on the unnamed community along Kemper Road from South Main Street to Druid Hills. This community encompasses Danville Community College (DCC), Cardinal Village, Pumpkin Creek Ball Park, and key employers such as the Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute and government offices. It plays a vital role in maintaining stability for the adjacent neighborhoods of Druid Hills, West End, Grove Park, and Southwyck Farms, with Druid Hills situated between DCC and the Schoolfield neighborhood.

The DNDC’s focus on the Kemper Road neighborhood demonstrates targeted leadership and strategic community engagement amidst the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic. By acquiring and rehabilitating properties, DNDC aims to enhance the neighborhood’s appeal and stability, recognizing its importance to the surrounding communities and the DCC. This effort is part of a broader strategy to improve living conditions, attract residents, and increase property values, thereby contributing to the overall well-being and economic resilience of the area.
