The purpose of the Danville Home Repair Blitz is to help the city’s most vulnerable homeowners (including elderly, veteran, disabled, and low-income) in targeted Danville neighborhoods make needed repairs and improvements to the exteriors of their homes. Priority will be given to repairs that serve as preventative maintenance and improve safety and resident mobility. All materials and labor will be provided free to eligible homeowners for the following repairs:
- Minor exterior repairs and carpentry (replacement of hand rails, porches, steps, wheelchair ramps, gutters, fencing, etc.)
- Exterior painting (shutters, trim, doors, railings, porches, etc.)
- Power washing
- Yard clean-up, trimming and debris/brush removal
- Safety-related improvements
In addition, to stabilize the surrounding community, problem properties in the neighborhood will be cleared of trash and overgrown brush. Danville Home Repair Blitz Days occur during one Saturday twice a year, once in the Spring and once in the Fall in targeted neighborhoods.
On November 10, 2018, the Blitz will come to the Westmoreland neighborhood! Community partners for this pilot Blitz event are the Westmoreland Neighborhood Organization (WNO) and Union Church. WNO is getting the word out to residents in need and identifying problem properties for clean-up. Union Church is mobilizing volunteers to work alongside homeowners to make needed repairs. The next Blitz Day is planned for May 2019! Check here or our social media pages for updates on the selected neighborhood and dates!
