The DNDC is currently revamping its home repair and improvement services. During the fall/winter season of 2021-2022, we will kick off a pilot program on one street in Danville City. On that street, the DNDC will provide technical assistance and resources to property owners to help them eliminate deferred maintenance, improve energy efficiency, and enhance their home’s curb appeal and value. More information will be announced at a later date.
In the meantime, however, we are seeking state-licensed home improvement contractors committed to performing the work. If your business is interested, please download the Request for Qualifications in this link (and below) and submit it by Tuesday, August 31, 2021 to Info@DanvilleNDC.org. Please send your questions to the same email address by Thursday, August 26, 2021.
We are also seeking a Construction-Rehab Manager to help residential property owners eliminate deferred maintenance, coordinate with contractors to make needed repairs and capital improvements, improve energy efficiency, and improve the curb appeal of their respective homes. The Construction Rehab-Manager will also work with the Executive Director to coordinate a new Landlord Training Program with the City of Danville. Additional information may be found in the job description linked below. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to apply by August 31, 2021.
The purpose of the Danville Home Repair Program & Blitz is to help elderly, veteran, disabled, and low-income homeowners make needed exterior repairs and improvements to their homes. Priority is given to repairs that serve as preventative maintenance and that address safety and resident mobility. All materials and labor are provided free to eligible homeowners. Typical work includes the following:
- Minor exterior repairs and carpentry (replacement of hand rails, porches, steps, wheelchair ramps, gutters, fencing, etc.)
- Exterior painting (shutters, trim, doors, railings, porches, etc.)
- Pressure washing
- Yard clean-up, trimming and debris/brush removal
- Safety-related improvements
The DNDC secures home improvement contractors and volunteers (both skilled and supervised unskilled) to complete repairs. Since 2018, our primary source of volunteers has been Union Church (810 Main Street, Danville). The Community Foundation of the Dan River Region has funded the program since 2019. Applications are now being accepted. To apply, please download the four-page application in the link below and mail it to P.O. Box 3549, Danville, VA 24543. You may also scan and email the completed application to Repair@DanvilleNDC.org. Call Ernecia at 434-799-5099 if you have questions, would like an application mailed to you, or would like to arrange the pick-up of your application.
In addition, to stabilize the surrounding community, problem properties in the neighborhood will be cleared of trash and overgrown brush on Home Repair Blitz Days. Blitz Days occur in targeted neighborhoods up to four times a year (usually Spring and Fall) on a Saturday. Blitz Days are planned in partnership with the resident associations (such as a Neighborhood Watch group) in targeted communities to identify up to 10 eligible homeowners for repairs on that one day. The program began in November 2018 in the Westmoreland neighborhood with help from the Westmoreland Neighborhood Organization. If you would like your neighborhood considered for a Blitz Day, call Ernecia at 434-799-5099.
